1 May 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss, David Artell, believes that the emergence of the next generation of Academy youngsters at the club will only add to the excitement for next season.

The likes of Owen Dale, Oli Finney, Billy Sass-Davies, Lewis Reilly and Will Jaaskelainen have all had a further taste of first-team football this season and that is before you consider the likes of Luke Offord, Josh Lundstram and Travis Johnson who have made the first-team squad - but haven’t yet made their professional debuts.

The Crewe boss told the club’s official website: “The younger players will be another year on and that will only benefit us more next season. We have what I now call the older Academy players, such as James Jones, Ben Garratt, Ryan Wintle, Pez, Kirky and Callum (Ainley).

“They have all played a lot of games now and are really senior players. They have to ready for that next step to use their experience to have even more of an influence on games.

“Tom Lowery is a bit in between that but I am sure that if he continues to work hard that he will feature a lot more next season.

“Then there are the emerging ones, the new Academy graduates. They have had a taste of it now and they have to keep on developing and make sure they get even more of chance to show what they can do and how they can have a greater effect on games.”
