Boss says the Sports Science department has made us one of the fittest groups in the division.

David Artell has praised the fitness level of his players and says that he is looking for them to finish the season strongly. The Crewe boss is not getting involved in any talk of gatecrashing the play-offs late on but he has been quick to highlight the professionalism of his players as he aim to push into the top 10 at least.

Artell has highlighted the work of sports scientist Liam Anderson (pictured) and his staff for making us one of the fittest sides in League Two.

The Alex boss told us: “No one can talk about our fitness levels. The stats are high and we have scored a lot of late goals. They are a fit group and all credit to Liam (Anderson) and his staff.

“All credit to the players as well because they have to look after themselves properly as well. We don’t have the resources of the top clubs when it comes to handing out vitamins after every training session.

“Our players have to live properly and eat properly and be professional. They can have a glass of wine or whatever when the time is right but their business is being a professional athlete and we look a strong and fit outfit.

The boss added: “We thought on Saturday at Mansfield that our fitness and quality would come through in the last hour an hour and that is how it panned out.”
