Artell Not Surprised By Tranmere's Success On Their Return To The EFL

6 March 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he is not surprised to see Micky Mellon’s Tranmere Rovers occupying one of the four play-off places.

Artell says that the momentum they have built up from winning promotion from the National League has driven them to further success following their return to the EFL.

Ahead of our Friday night trip to Prenton Park, Artell told the club’s official website: “I am not surprised that Tranmere are in the play-offs. They have given it a right good go and have good players.

“They won promotion last season and you can go on a crest of wave when the momentum and confidence is there.

“I did it at Morecambe when we came up and then finished fourth. I won back-to- back promotions with Rotherham to get into the Championship.

“Luton Town are top of League One and looking to go again. It can happen and I am not surprised by Tranmere’s success this season one little bit.

“They are a competitive side that have done ever so well in their first season back in the Football League.

“They can move the ball if they want to move the ball, they can be aggressive if they want to be aggressive.

He added:  “They have a bit of everything, and it’s been enough to get them in the top seven. All credit to them.”
