Daniel Powell Has Bought Into The Football Club

Boss says capture of experienced winger is a real coup

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell has told the club’s official website that new signing Daniel Powell agreed to come to Crewe after discussing the philosophy of the football club. Powell rejected a new contract offer from his club Northampton Town and had other interest in his signature but the former MK Dons winger elected to move to Cheshire after holding talks with Artell.

The Alex boss told crewealex.net: “I never lie to players and I am always honest with them. That resonates with them and you just have to understand them quickly and what makes them tick.

“He played a lot of games for the MK Dons and I don’t think we are too unfamiliar than them. We play a similar style of football and he has come through there. They have tried to emulate what we have done with young players and I think that philosophy played a part in his decision.

“I am sure he would have looked at it and preferred Crewe because we want to play football. I am sure when he met the staff and looked around the training ground then I am sure that would have played a part as well.

“I think there are a lot of players whose football beliefs and philosophy sometimes come ahead of a few more quid. Of course, there are players who think about the money first but Daniel isn’t one of them.

“I think he felt comfortable and we put the best offer we could on the table and he has bought into the football club. It is a real positive for us.”
