Boss believed he had one over the line on Friday night but developments mean target has gone elsewhere.
Crewe Alexandra manager, David Artell, has revealed that the club lost out on a potential loan target earlier this week.
The Alex staff worked hard over the weekend to get one over the line, but the player involved has chosen to go elsewhere.
Artell says that the transfer window can be incredibly frustrating but he is confident that he can still bring in one before the end of the week.
David told crewealex.net: “We thought we had one over the line on Friday night and into Saturday. Everything was virtually sorted but then a Technical Director got involved and now he is going somewhere else.
“It is frustrating but it was out of our control and you just have to get on with it. You do a bit let down because I am firm believer of your word being enough but I have learnt not to say too much until the ink is dry.
“I am still confident that we will do some business before the weekend. The prep is there and these things can develop very quickly.”
