Barber On Facing Jim Bentley's Morecambe

4 January 2019

Looking ahead to this weekend's Sky Bet League Two match at Morecambe, Crewe Goalkeeper Coach Fred Barber has had his say on a 'tricky' contest at the Globe Arena.

The Alex's shot-stopping guru has been around the game & in many dressing rooms over the years & he admits he's always impressed with the job Jim Bentley does at Morecambe.

Bentley is the current longest serving Manager in the EFL, and despite a difficult start to the season including a 6-0 loss at the Alex on opening day, he's turned things around & has his side on course to defy the odds yet again & avoid relegation.

Barber said: "With the budget he's got, Jim [Bentley] does fantastically well.

"He's probably down there with ourselves for one of the lowest budgets in the EFL. He gets a lot of war-horses & knits a small squad together.

"I think the lad Ellison is 38 or so. You look at people like that, they keep themselves fit & work their socks off for him.

"I was looking at Jim's team the other day & he's got quite an old squad. But he puts them together & they do battle for him.

"We beat them 1-0 last year at their place, Perry scored a screamer from outside the box at the end. It was a difficult night in tough conditions, very wet & windy & the pitch wasn't the best.

"Hopefully conditions will be better than that tomorrow. It will be tricky but we're all confident we can go there & get a win."
