Oldham Showed Up Really Well At Gresty Road

15 February 2019

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says his side had ‘one of their off-nights’ against Oldham Athletic back in December. The Latics, then manager by Frankie Bunn, deservedly won 2-0 at Gresty, but Artell believes that his side are a different animal now.

Since that defeat on 8th December, the Alex have won six and drawn two from our 11 games. The Crewe boss also believes that Oldham will be slightly different because of the Scholes-factor.

The former England International, Paul Scholes, recently replaced Bunn and won his first game in charge 4-1 against struggling Yeovil in mid-week.

Ahead our trip to Boundary Park, David told us: “Oldham showed up really well against our place and deserved to win the game but we had an off-night. That type of performance hasn’t happened a lot at home this season.

“I think it will be two slightly different teams this weekend. We are in good form and they have a new manager. I’m sure Paul will have his own ideas and it should be a really good game. If we play to our potential we will see how we get on.

“Our fans were terrific at Macclesfield and I hope they travel in their numbers again. I think thta although we were all devastated by what happened at the end with their equaliser, they still saw a good performance.

“We need them again. I said at the time that the players were desperate to score in that goal where they were. I cannot tell you how much of a difference it makes and you only have to look at our home record to see that.

“We are all in this together and the fans have a big part to play.”
