Rest In Peace Gordon Banks

12 February 2019

Everybody's thoughts are today with the family and friends of Gordon Banks, who has sadly passed away at the age of 81.

The Sheffield-born goalkeeper was one of the finest the game has ever seen and he will forever be remembered for helping England win the 1966 World Cup and for that incredible save from Pele's downward header four years later in Mexico!

Banks made over 600 club appearances for the likes of Chesterfield, Leicester City, Stoke City before embarking on a successful career in the United States.

Gordon also won 73 caps for England and briefly managed at Telford United.

Following the conclusion of his career, Banks did a tremendous amount of work for local charities and he will be sorely missed. RIP number one.
