Boss: "Confidence Hasn't Taken A Knock Despite What Happened At The End At Macclesfield"

12 February 2019

David Artell says it is important to move on quickly from Saturday’s draw with Cheshire rivals Macclesfield Town and hopefully get back to winning ways against Carlisle United this evening. Crewe face an in-form Carlisle side in our re-arranged fixture after the original date was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Gresty Road.

Crewe had a free week before travelling to Macclesfield and three mistakes cost us three points at Moss Rose in a topsy-turvy 3-3 draw.

Ahead of tonight’s game at the Alexandra Stadium, Artell told us: “I don’t think the confidence has taken a knock after what happened against Macclesfield. It shouldn’t of.

“We played really well but we made four mistakes all game and three of them ended up as goals. We still drew the game and have only lost one in eight, so the confidence is still there.

“I have said that you are only as good as your next game. People say last game but I say it’s the next game. It doesn’t matter if Sergio Aguero scores a hat-trick one week if he doesn’t get a kick the next game!

“That is football. You have to move on quickly and we will. We have picked the bones out of Macclesfield and what happened there. We went through it with them to make sure they learn from it and do everything they can from preventing it happening again.

“They know they cannot ship three goals like that and expect to get anything from the game, so we will use it and move on to Carlisle.”
