Boss: "We Still Need To Be More Ruthless In Front Of Goal"

12 August 2019

Crewe Alexandra controlled much of the game at Boundary Park on Saturday and deservedly collected our first three points of the season. On the flipside, David Artell is demanding his side become more clinical in front of goal.

The Alex should have made the 2-1 win a lot more comfortable than it was with the number of chances we created on the day.

Crewe were frustrated not to have added to the two goals scored by Chris Porter with the likes of Olly Lancashire, Daniel Powell and substitute Owen Dale all spurning really good opportunities when you have backed them to score.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I don’t think anyone who went to the game could say that we didn’t deserve to win the game. After a dreadful start, we controlled most of the game and the real positive was the number of chances we created.

“On the flipside, we should have scored more than we did. We didn’t take enough of our chances and there is room for improvement. We need to be a bit more ruthless because we will create chances.

“We have enough goalscorers on the pitch but we need to convert more of the chances we are creating because goals change games and we learned that lesson last season.”
