Artell: "The Shop Is Still Open So We Are Still Browsing"

29 August 2019

With just days of the transfer window remaining, David Artell has not ruled out doing some more business to boost his squad. The Alex boss recently signed the Norwegian forward Chuma Anene on loan for the season and he was able to bring in defender Olly Lancashire and forward Daniel Powell in much earlier in the pre-season.

The Crewe boss says that with the shop still open for business, Crewe are still looking for new additions.

EFL clubs in League One and Two have until 2nd September to sign any player on a permanent or loan basis. After the summer deadline, only players who are out of contract at the time of the closure can be signed.

Artell told the club’s official website: “The window is still open and whilst the shops are still open we are still looking around to see if there are any bargains or something interests us. That could be a loan deal or a permanent deal, we are still looking at all options.

“I have always said that if there is a player out there, who we think would improve us or give us another option then we would to do something about it. That has not changed and we are still actively looking.

“What I won’t do is bring one in for the sake of it. We need players to improve us, to challenge for a place and having that competition to push the others on.”
