Boss: "We Have To Be Better In Those Middle Months"

30 April 2019

David Artell says that his Crewe Alexandra side will have to improve their consistency in the middle part of the season if we are to mount a promotion push next season. Crewe have fallen just short of the play-offs this time around and we are left kicking ourselves after our poor form away from home in the first part of the season ultimately cost us.

The Railwaymen won 15 games at Gresty Road and our away form has certainly improved in the second half of the campaign with wins at MK Dons, Mansfield and Swindon but Artell is after even more improvement next season.

The Alex boss told us: “Our points haul since Boxing Day has been fairly good I would say but we have got to be like that all season. We have to be like that in September, October and November and that has been two seasons on the bounce now. We have to be just as good then and not have to rely on a late finish.

“If we are better in those middle months then we have less to make up if we come good again in the second half of the season, so instead of going from 17th to 10th, we can go from 12th to 7th or better still 7th to the top three places.

The boss added: “We have to aim to be more consistent over the course of the season and not start fairly well and end really well. That is what has been disappointing and will be frustrating when we look back and assess the season.”
