Lunt: "We Played Much Better Football"

1 October 2018

Crewe Alexandra’s assistant manager Kenny Lunt says there were some positives to take from Saturday’s performance against Notts County.

Crewe suffered their third successive defeat at Meadow Lane, but there were really encouraging signs when in possession. The Alex certainly played the ball shorter and more accurately at Meadow Lane and arguably deserved more than we got on day.

Lunt appreciates that it’s a results business and that the objective wasn’t met but the assistant manager says it is important to see some encouraging signs after the disappointing second halves against Cheltenham and Port Vale.

Lunt told crewealex.net: “We were disappointed not to have got anything from the game on Saturday because there were positives performances.

“We passed the ball a lot better than we have been doing and we didn’t look from back-to-front all the time. It was a much better performance but we were disappointed with the two goals we conceded.

“There were two mistakes. We got done on the counter-attack for the first goal and their midfielder has run off our midfielder for the second one. That can happen and we have to eradicate those mistakes. We have put that right.

Kenny added: “There are things to improve on. We need to be better in both boxes and make that final ball or cross count. We didn’t do that enough on Saturday when we worked ourselves into some good positions.”
