Kenny: "Players Gave Everything They Had"

1 October 2018

Assistant manager Kenny Lunt says that the Crewe Alexandra players ‘gave everything they had’ against Notts County but we couldn’t quite get the job done to get a result.

Goals from County midfielders Rob Milsom and Elliott Hewitt in each half did the damage, but Crewe had been on top in the game when Jordan Bowery finished off a well-worked team goal in the 14th minute. We failed to withstand a period of pressure during the opening 20 minutes of the second half and although we finished the game strongly, we couldn’t find an equaliser.

Kenny told the club’s official website: “If we can keep the performances high then the results will come. We are determined to turn it around and a large number of this group is still relatively young and are still learning.

“Last year, for one example, Charlie Kirk wasn’t in the team and now we are expecting him to go out there every game and create and score goals and be our match winner. It is the same with Callum.

“They are still young and are going to inconsistent. They are certainly not the only ones. I think if you ask any management team in the country, if their players play to their potential every week they would say no.

“The players gave everything they had on Saturday but two mistakes have cost us. They are all working hard and we are all determined to turn it around.

Ken added: “When things are going against you, in terms of results, it is the best time to learn. It is easier when you are winning and everything is flowing but when it isn’t, it is important to knuckle down and learn from adversity. It helps with your career going forward.”
