Porter Still After That First Promotion On His CV

18 June 2018

Chris Porter has told the club’s official website that his ankle ‘feels absolutely fine’ and he is raring to embark on what will be his 15th pre-season as a professional footballer. The Wigan-born forward has enjoyed a fantastic career with the likes of Oldham, Derby County and Sheffield United but the 34-year is still awaiting his first promotion.

Porter has been leading by example this summer and has already attended a number of summer sessions to work on his fitness and conditioning.

He told crewealex.net: “The ankle is absolutely fine. It needed doing and I feel good. There are no concerns from me and I am just working on being as fit as I can be for the first game.

“I’ve done a number of pre-seasons before and I used to run myself into the ground and when the season started you can get one or two niggles. Now, I still put the work in but the objective is just to be fit as you can be the first game. The match fitness then comes with the games.

“All you can do is focus on that first game and trying to make sure you are in team. Hopefully, I will have a few more pre-seasons to come yet.

“I still do not have a promotion on my CV, so it would be nice to get one towards the end of my career. That is something I would like to be involved in.”
