Artell: "Having More Local Games Is Great For The Fans"

20 June 2018

David Artell believes that it is great to have more local games to content with this coming season. Ahead of fixture release day, Artell says that it adds an extra spice to the occasion when we are playing more locally based teams.

The Crewe boss admits that he is happier to be playing the likes of Bury, Tranmere and Macclesfield more so than having to travel to places like Dover, Aldershot and Barnet.

Talking to the club’s official website ahead of the EFL fixtures being released tomorrow, Artell said: “I think it is great to have more local games. It is better for us in regards to the travelling involved and better for the supporters as well.

“I think they would much prefer to be able to travel an hour up the road to support their team than say go to a Dover or an Aldershot. I would much prefer to have Tranmere, Port Vale and Macclesfield. We will get more fans going and it will create a better atmosphere. There is something more on the games for the supporters to enjoy.

“Our away following has been terrific, I must say. With the games being a bit closer at times, I’m sure we will have a few more travelling and hopefully we can produce the goods for them to make it an even better away day.”
