Raynes Looking Forward To Carlisle Return

10 January 2018

Crewe Alexandra defender Michael Raynes is looking forward to returning to his former club Carlisle United this weekend and he will be hoping to erase the 5-0 defeat we suffered back in September. Crewe Alexandra suffered their heaviest defeat of the season against a clinical Carlisle United side and Raynes described the experience as ‘his worst in his Crewe career’.

Raynes says that that nightmare afternoon is well past him now and he is looking forward to hopefully securing back-to-back wins following our New Year’s Day victory over Grimsby.

The 30-year centre half told the club’s official website: “Losing heavily at home to my former club was the worst game for me. On a personal level it was an afternoon to forget but that can happen in football and you have to quickly move on from it.

“It was a bad day at the office for us and you have them. Everyone has a bad day at work and you have to get on with it. After the game was over and we moved on to the next game, it was over. It was a case of on to next one and looking to put things right.

“I know Keith Curle and he will be bang up for it again. He won’t be thinking about a Cup replay against Sheffield Wednesday. He is a perfectionist and he will be looking to win the game, like we are.

“Carlisle are a good team, we know that. I would imagine like a lot of clubs at this level they would be expecting to be higher in the league than they are but it should be another good game. It is a challenge and one we are looking forward to. “
