David Artell is delighted that Tom Lowery has become the latest of the club’s younger players to sign a new contract with the club.
Lowery, 20, penned a new three-and-half year deal with the club yesterday and Artell is pleased that the midfielder has extended his stay until the summer of 2021.
The Crewe boss told the club’s official website: “Tom has a far way to go but we want him to reach his potential here with us. He has some development to go but he knows that he is at the right club to develop.
“I just told him that if he wanted to take his chances elsewhere then that is up to him but Tom is an astute and bright lad and he knows he can improve here.
“He has to get to the level where he is dictating games a lot more. We want other managers to look at him and say that despite his stature, he is the one who really makes an impact on the game.
“He is still very young for a central midfielder, so the games will sometimes by pass him, but we know he has the potential to be a very good player.
“We want him to become a better version of Paul Green. The first step will be to learn from someone like him. To get to Paul’s level and influence takes time, hence the length of his contract. “
