Artell: "We Have To Match Barton's All-Action Style"

14 August 2018

David Artell believes that although the new Fleetwood Town boss, Joey Barton, may make some changes this evening, so he can assess his players in a competitive environment, he will still be aiming to progress into round two of the League Cup.

Crewe host the League One side this evening and Artell is looking forward to going up against one of the country’s newly appointed managers.

David told crewealex.net: “Like us, Joey Barton will be looking to win the game and get through. He won’t want to come to a club in a lower league, lose the game and go out of a cup competition. He will be looking to build some momentum in the same way we are and that comes from winning football matches.

“We will have to match their work rate and endeavour first and foremost and then make the right decisions with and without the ball.

“They are a league higher and that should mean they have superior players. It won’t be much and that is not to say we don’t have players here who are good enough to play higher because I believe we have.

Artell added: “As a player, Joey had a great career and was an all action midfield player, and from what I have seen so far, his teams will try and match his style. It will be a tough game but one we are all looking forward to. “
