Richards: "My Focus Is On That Number One Shirt"

26 April 2018

Dave Richards says he is completely focussed on regaining the number one shirt for the 2018/19 season. The Welsh stopper recently signed a new contract and after having a taste of first-team action this season, he is desperate for more game time going into next season.

Richards produced a man-of-the-match performance on his debut away at Coventry and then saved a decisive penalty in a 1-0 win over Stevenage before Ben Garratt regained the number one spot.

Richards was given another opportunity to stake his claim away at Swindon in January, but he unfortunately picked up an untimely leg injury and had to be replaced in the 4-3 defeat. Garratt has deservedly kept the shirt since but Richards will be looking to wrestle it off his back for the opener in August.

Dave told the club’s official website: “I am focussed on being fit and fresh for pre-season so I am knocking on the door for the number one shirt. Everything I will be doing now will be preparing to push for that shirt.

“It was brilliant to get some game time under my belt this season. I had a decent little run before I was injured at Swindon and I want more of it.

“I’ve had a good taste of the first team now, so now I want more of the same. That is the aim, that’s the goal this summer.

He added: “I love being at the club, I’m really settled. It is a great place to live and everyone is very friendly and welcoming. “
