Artell Searching For Winning Formula

6 October 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he and his staff will continue to work hard to find a winning formula. The Alex have endured a mix couple of months in League Two.

A promising start in August had seen us reach a high of 4th place in the league table and those results saw Artell nominated for Manager of the Month for August.

Since beating Chesterfield 5-1 at the Alexandra Stadium, we have suffered five straight league losses and exited the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night following a 1-0 defeat by Oldham Athletic.

Artell says he will continue to give his players every opportunity to prove that they can make a difference and get us back on track.

Dave told us: “A lot is made of confidence and as a footballer you have to be confident in your ability. If you are low on confidence before you step onto the pitch then you are in trouble.

“You have to have that belief and right attitude. You can be apprehensive that you are facing a Phillip Lahm at left-back rather than a League Two left-back, but if you do your job properly then you always have a chance.

“We have got to be more resilient and turn those narrow 1-0 defeats into 1-0 or 2-0 wins.

“I pick a team and formation to win a game. It is not a raffle and there is a lot of thinking that goes into it. We assess our strengths and their weaknesses and make sure we always give ourselves the best chance of winning. “
