Artell: "I Have Selection Headaches Every Week"

13 October 2017

Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell says that he has selection headaches every week.

The Alex boss will be without the injured George Ray (back) James Jones (hip) and Ryan Wintle (fractured tibia) for the trip to Yeovil this weekend but he still has a selection to make after leaving out his leading scorer Chris Porter last weekend.

His replacement Jordan Bowery scored the only goal of the game against Stevenage after starting with Chris Dagnall.

Artell told crewealex.net: “I have selection headaches every week. It is better to have that than not. I always select a team that I believe gives us the best chance of winning the game.

“Changes happen because of niggles, loss of form, suspension or other factors, but we always select a team to go and win the game.

“Making those decisions is part and parcel of football management. That is what I am paid to do.

“We pick a team to win. It is important to have that mindset. Yes, we look at the opponents and single out those players who can cause a threat but we focus on what we can do, to score goals and win games.”
