Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell says he would no qualms about giving his reserve goalkeeper Dave Richards his chance if Ben Garratt endures a dip in form.
Artell wants Richards to really push the Crewe number one next season and he has praised Richards’ attitude.
The former Cardiff and Bristol City goalkeeper signed a new deal last week and Artell says he is not after another goalkeeper.
Artell told crewealex.net: “Dave knows he has some development to come and he has to become more consistent starting with the U-23s.
“I want him to push Ben close and he can do that by becoming more consistent. He is a good pro and a great trainer. I would have no qualms about playing Dave if Ben has a dip in form or is injured. It would then be up to him to see how he handles it.”
