U23 Manager looking for reaction from his side in cup final
Crewe Alexandra Under 23 Manager Alex Morris is looking forward to testing his side against the occasion as he bids to lead his troops to a first Cheshire Senior Cup Final success since 2003.
His side take on near neighbours Nantwich Town at The Alexandra Stadium on Wednesday (April 5), 7:45pm kick-off, in the showpiece final of the competition with the trophy & a place in the record books at stake.
Crewe have reached the final for the first time since 2005 after negotiating a passage past Stockport Town, Stalybridge Celtic, Stockport County & Hyde United.
Morris told crewealex.net “I’m really interested to see how the boys react because it will be a bit of an occasion. They’ll be far more watching than we’re used to seeing at normal U23 games with hopefully a couple of thousand through the gate.
“They’ve got a league game on the Monday night at Bristol City at Ashton gate as well, so they’ve got a big two or three days & it will be interesting to see how they react physically & mentally playing in the Final against a very good standard of opposition in Nantwich.
“We’re one game & 90 minutes away from winning the Cheshire Senior Cup, something we’ve not won for a good while so it would be really good if we could come out as the victors.
“I played in both of those last two cup final victories in 2002 & 2003, & they were both good occasions where we took a lot of supporters. To have it at Gresty Road this time as well brings a bit more spice plus with it being the neighbours from down the road it should be a great occasion!”
Tickets for the Cup Final are on a pay-at-the-turnstiles basis with the Main Stand only open to all supporters.
