U18: Crewe 2-2 Leeds United

19 January 2017

Alex caught out by resilient Leeds

Crewe Alexandra Under 18's were made to rue missed chances & two lapses of concentration at the back as Leeds United escaped Reaseheath with a 2-2 draw.

In Lee Bell's first game as U18 Manager after making the step-up from assistant, the side dominated for large periods but were twice caught out by the visitors.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play on 21 minutes, breaking up the field & taking a speculative shot from 20-yards that took a huge deflection & looped over the helpless Scott Wardley in the Alex goal.

Crewe hit back just after the half-hour mark, Regan Griffiths rounding the goalkeeper & sliding into the empty neat after bullish build-up play.

That lead was short-lived though, as Leeds hit-back immediately from the kick-off to regain their advantage without Crewe touching the ball.

Two minutes before half-time & Crewe were deservedly level, Lewis Reilly firing home a confident penalty kick into the corner after Griffiths was fouled.F

The Alex continued to press after the interval, creating numerous attacks on the Leeds goal, but they couldn't make the pressure tell as the game ended all-square.

Crewe: Wardley, Woodcock, Wilkinson, Sass-Davies, Johnson, Griffiths, Offord, Harrison, Walsh, Walley, Reilly
