Crewe Sign Striker Jonny Margetts On Loan

31 January 2017

Crewe Alexandra boss David Artell bolsters his forward options with deadline signing.

Crewe Alexandra is delighted to confirm the loan signing of Scunthorpe United striker Jonny Margetts until the end of the season.

The Doncaster-born forward becomes David Artell’s second loan signing as manager, following the addition of Jordan Bowery from Leyton Orient.

Margetts began his career as a youngster with Hull City, but he failed to make a senior appearance for the Tigers and after a succession of loan spells with Gainsborough Trinity and Cambridge United, he joined Tranmere Rovers on a permanent basis in the summer of 2015. He scored two goals in 10 appearances for the Birkenhead club but was also loaned out to Stockport County, Altrincham and Southport.

Following a successful trial period, he signed for Lincoln City in the summer of 2016 & a fantastic start to his Imps career saw him score five goals in seven games and that alerted League One side Scunthorpe to sign him for an undisclosed fee in August 2016. Four of those goals came in a 4-0 win over his former club Southport.

The 23-year-old has been limited to five substitute appearances for the Iron and he netted his first goal for the club came in a 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town in the Football League Trophy back in October.

His career record impressively stands at 17 goals in just 21 league starts. He has also made 9 appearances as a substitute and made three substitute appearances in cup competitions for his various other clubs.

Margetts will wear the number 19 shirt and we would like to welcome Jonny to the Club.
