Artell: "We Have To Play The Right Way"

11 December 2017

David Artell says that defeats in football are inevitable but he has reiterated that he won’t accept his team losing in the manner that they did against Cheltenham on Saturday.

The Alex boss was annoyed that his side lost 1-0 at Whaddon Road to a scruffy goal just minutes into the second half but he was more disappointed with the performance, especially in the first hour of the game.

Ahead of our FA Cup replay against Blackburn tomorrow night, Artell told the club’s official website: “There is losing the right way. You are going to lose games because that happens in football but it is easier to stomach when you have played the right way.

“I don’t like losing full spot. I detest it but it is a lot harder to take when we don’t play well and don't pass the ball.

“You cannot play well and lose 1-0 every week because it is a results business. I get that but you can stomach it easier when you play the right way.

He added: “To me the first hour at Cheltenham was not acceptable. That is not what this football club is all about and we have to get back to basics and start showing that bravery on the ball.”
