Crewe Alexandra's 16-goal striker from 2016/17 Chris Dagnall spoke of his delight at getting off the mark for the new season in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Newport County.

Daggers failed to find the target during pre-season, but it took him just two league games to register when the action got under-way for real after his Exiles effort.

Chris said: "The Manager says it enough times, strikers will always be judged on the goals they score.

“It was nice to get up & running in the second league game & hopefully that will start another good run for me.

“I like all the running about & getting involved, I really do - It’s nice to get the goals as well!

“It’s a little bit of a different position I’ve been playing since the Manager came in as well & I’m thriving on.”
