Artell: "No-One Getting Carried Away"

28 August 2017

David Artell says he is pleased with the start his Crewe Alexandra side have made to the new season but he stresses that it is still very early days in League Two.

A 1-0 victory over rivals Port Vale extended our unbeaten run to four games and propelled us up to fourth in the table. Not that Artell is one for looking at league standings, especially just four games into the new campaign!

Artell told the club’s official web-site: “On one hand we are getting there, but on the other, it is just four games. We are not jumping the gun. It was our second successive win and our second successive clean-sheet, so we are pleased with that but we also know that we can better than we did against Barnet and then against Port Vale at the weekend.

“I’ve told them not to settle for 1-0 wins. I want them to go out, be more ruthless and score more goals. I don’t want them to settle for 1-0 wins, I want them to progress on and try to do what Doncaster did last season in this league. They went out and steamrolled over teams.

The boss added: "We have goals in this team and I know that if Daggers isn’t scoring, then Porter will. If he doesn’t George (Cooper) will get goals, Jonah did last season. They can all chip in.”
