Artell: "Fans Have Major Part To Play"

2 August 2017

David Artell has reiterated that the club’s supporters have a major part in the coming season. The Alex boss is eager to improve the club’s home form to provide us with a solid base of points, so that we can compete at the top end of the League Two table.

The Crewe boss wants the Alexandra Stadium to become more atmospheric and make it a difficult place for the opposition to visit.

Crewe Alexandra kick off the new season against promotion favourites Mansfield Town on Saturday.

Ahead of the visit of the Stags, Artell told us: “First of all I'm a fan, and I'm in such a privileged position, I don't take it lightly.

“So when I ask 'can the fans sing a bit more?' it's constructive, I'm not having a go at anyone, if they don't want to I can't force them.

“But the more noise they make, believe me, it makes a huge difference.

“At home games especially there is a big stand which can make a big, big noise. It can. And I don't want them to just be sat there with their gloves on and pie in their hand without shouting and getting everyone going.

“Hopefully the drum will be there to get some sort of atmosphere because that's what we need. If I was setting targets for supporters I'd be saying 'can we create more noise?'

He added: “I just know that it helps enormously, we have a lot of young players and I know several thousand people singing their name will help.”
