Wintle Hoping More To Come

24 April 2017

Ryan Wintle scored his first senior goal for the club with towering header against the O's

Ryan Wintle marked his return to the Crewe Alexandra starting line-up with his first senior goal against Leyton Orient at the weekend. Wintle headed home George Cooper’s accurate corner to put Crewe 2-0 head against a soon-to-be-relegated O’s. It was Wintle’s first goal for the club in his 20th appearance but he has a fine record of goals at Under-23 level.

Boss David Artell was not surprised to see Wintle at the far post heading home as he described him as ‘one of the finest headers of the ball in the Football Club.’

Ryan told the club’s official web-site: “It was my first career goal so it will be something I will always remember. I have been a bit ill and my dad texted me before the game and said ‘I know you have been ill, but get a  goal’ and I texted back ‘no worries’, so to score and for us to get the three points is very pleasing.

“We have been practising set-plays. I’ve worked on coming round the back and getting my head on things. I think I am better coming from late, and I’ve managed to get a good contact on it.

“I don’t know if it crossed the line or not. I’ll take it though and the linesman and some of the lads said it was over, so it’s something I will always remember. I think I only scored one headed goal for Alsager! Hopefully there will be more to come.

“Now I’ve got to kick on and hopefully end the season well. It would be nice to get another goal but we want six points. Hopefully, we can go to Plymouth on Saturday and use their crowd to spur us on. They can still win the league, so there will be a lot riding on it for them, so the crowd should be good.

Wintle added: “We want to go there and get the three points. From a personal point of view, I want to play well, so the manager may rethink trying to get another one. I want to do as well as I can and push myself forward for next season.”
