No Qualms Over New Centre-Half Partnership

27 April 2017

Artell has been impressed with the way Bingham and NG have stepped up to cover injuries.

David Artell says he has not reservations about pairing youngster Perry Ng alongside Billy Bingham at centre-half for this weekend’s trip to Plymouth Argyle. Artell has had to cope without his three main centre-halves due to injury and after being loaned out to St. Mirren, Harry Davis was also injured.

Artell has been forced to rejig his defensive pairing but has faith in the promising Ng and the versatile Bingham to make it difficult for the Pilgrims as they seek to try and win the League Two title.

Ahead of or trip to Home Park, Artell said: “Billy and Perry have done a terrific job for us. I thought they were our two best players at Yeovil and they helped us keep a clean-sheet against Leyton Orient. I know they didn’t have to deal with too much of a threat because of the way we performed but what they needed to do, they did well.

“Perry strolled out defence to play a part in the third goal and we are encouraging him to do that because he is a good footballer. We want our centre-halves to find players in forward positions and not just whack it. We want them to play the right way.

He added: “They both defended well. Bill was a bit nervous before the game because it is an unfamiliar position for him but he has shown his versatility and he has picked things up quickly. I’ve been pleased with both of them and if we need to pair them again then I won’t worry.”
