Artell on young guns winning the silverware

Dave Artell praised Coach Alex Morris and the Crewe young guns after they won the Cheshire Senior Cup after four grueling rounds and a Final victory over Nantwich Town.

The Gaffer was particularly pleased with the resilience showed in that final when things weren't going to plan in the second half, with the team digging in & finding a way to win.

Artell said: "It's a reflection of the hard work that the lads have put in.

"The games right way through the competition against the Stalybridge's, the Stockport's have been tough, tough games that don't get asked in normal U23 fixtures - and the lads have come through with flying colours.

"It's a great feeling for everyone concerned & it gives the platform for those fringe players to stake a claim as to why they should be in the first team squad - and it doesn't half give you plenty to think about.

"When you're in a Cup Final you want to win it, and that's exactly what the lads did. They found a way to win even though they didn't play very well in the second half despite being excellent in the first half.

"But they found the way to win and that's all part of development because winning is a big part of professional football. Alex is doing a great job with the group"
