Steve: "Blend Is Much Better Now"

15 September 2016

Boss says having experienced players has only helped the group.

Steve Davis says that the recruitment of the experienced trio Ryan Lowe, Chris Dagnall and Danny Hollands has given his squad a much better blend. The Alex boss was determined to add more experience to his squad this season because he felt that having so many youngsters was a decisive factor in seeing us relegated from League One last season.

The Crewe boss told crewealex.net: “We were a very young team last season and I was determined to bring in more experienced players. It is what we needed.

“We didn’t have enough experience or quality last season and they were young in terms of getting over set-backs when a defeat is followed by a defeat and then another defeat, you have to know how to cope with that.

“The three we have managed to bring in have that know how. They are proven and have played at a higher level.

“They have been there and seen it and can cope with set-backs and that only helps the group. They help them come through it and that is why I targeted that type of player in our recruitment.

He added: “The blend of youth and experience is much better. With money was no object I would like to get three more in and improve us further. I would prefer to have more experience as the core of our team and have the youngsters around that. That would only help them develop like it is with the three we have. “
