Place Up For Grabs For Youngsters

20 September 2016

Three youngsters contesting for Kiwomya place.

Steve Davis says that three of his younger players are vying for a place in the starting XI this weekend for the visit of Blackpool. The Alex boss has to decide on a replacement for the injured Alex Kiwomya with Callum Ainley, Charlie Kirk and Ryan Wintle all hoping to get the nod.

Steve says that their attitude and displays in training, as well their performances last night for the Development Squad will all come into consideration for his final selection. The U-23s defeated Colchester United 4-1 last night with Callum Saunders and Danny Udoh scoring two goals apiece.

The Crewe Alexandra manager told the club’s official web-site: “I will take everything into consideration. Not just what they done this week in training or in the last game but in the previous two, three weeks.

“They have got to work hard and make sure they are ready and we watch their attitude and application to see who approaching the work the right way. It will about how they train and how they perform every day.

“We put a strong team out at Colchester and it would have been a tough night for them because the majority have played in first-team.

“They played well. The two strikers got a goal apiece and NG and Wintle were excellent, so it is nice to see that the backup players are in good form.

“We could play Callum Ainley, Charlie Kirk or Ryan Wintle in place of Alex. They would have to play it a bit differently.”
