Davis Encourages More Goal Threat

Boss pleased that the goals are being shared around his team

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says he will continue to encourage his players to arrive in the opposition box and share the goals around the team. The Alex boss is pleased that the goals have been shared around this season with eight different players already finding the back of the net thus far.

Midfielder James Jones was the latest to add himself to that growing list with his late winner against Doncaster Rovers last weekend. Jones popped up in the opposition box in the 87th minute to collect a knockdown from Ollie Turton and his low shot into the net was his first senior goal for over a year.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Jonah took his goal last week and it was nice to see him on the scoresheet again. We have told him to get getting in there and it was nice to see him rewarded with that.

“He collected the ball, turned and whacked it in and everyone was pleased for him and for us because it proved to be the winning goal against a tough opponent.

He added: “I have always encouraged our midfield players to get forward and try and get a goal. Dario was the same and we have always encouraged the likes of Murphy, Westy and Powelly to do that. They chipped in with goals and we need more of that from our midfield players and wingers.”
