Youngsters Need To Have Impact

20 October 2016

Boss says Ainley and Kirk can create and score goals at first-team level.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was pleased to see Callum Ainley back amongst the goals for the club’s Development Squad. Ainley scored our goal in the 1-1 draw at Bolton Wanderers on Monday and Davis says that it is important and he and his close pal Charlie Kirk continue to get into goalscoring positions.

With Alex Kiwomya back from injury and Tom Lowery impressive in his recent outings, the young pair will be battling it out for a place on the bench at home to Yeovil this weekend.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The two young boys understand that they have to play well, consistently well to retain their place.

“They know that they have to have more impact at first team level. The have to have shots on goal and get into goalscoring positions more often. They are forward players who have to threaten the goal more. They have to create or score goals for us.

Steve added: “We will work hard with them on the training ground, so they get into those positions more often. That is the next stage of their development because they have scored goals all the way through.”
