Door of oppotunity opens for Udoh and Saunders.

Steve Davis says that if young strikers Callum Saunders and Daniel Udoh are called upon to fill the immense void that has been created by the injuries to our experienced forwards Ryan Lowe and Chris Dagnall then they have to prove that they are ready to step up.

The door of opportunity has presented itself and Davis wants his young strikers to prove that they are capable of scoring and creating the goals we will need over a busy month.

Following last night’s exit from the Checkatrade Trophy competition, Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I can only judge it from the one game but I have to say that I was disappointed with some of the performances of the younger ones, who got their chance.

“The two forwards have been telling me that they are ready, but there was little sign of that. They wanted their chance and now it has come. They have to step up to the challenge and prove that they can do it because they are going to be involved over the next few weeks.

“It is up to them and we will have to wait and see if they can do it. The prove will be in their performance, their contribution and their goal and assist record.

“I can only prejudge on their performance against Chesterfield but they didn’t show enough quality in the box.”
