"We Can Only Focus On Ourselves"

1 March 2016

Crewe boss hoping to keep our fate in our own hands as he get set for the final stretch of the season.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis wants his players to only focus on ourselves as we approach the final few months of the season. With 13 games remaining to try and retain our League One status again, the Crewe boss has pointed towards the achievement made by our opponents last weekend Barnsley.

The Tykes have rapidly climbed the table with 10 wins from 13 games and are now just three points off the top six.

Crewe face another play-off hopeful Southend United at Roots Hall this evening and the Crewe boss says he wants his players to focus on one game at a time.

Steve told crewealex.net: “It can be the case that when you lose, the teams around us win and pull further away. Then you can win and they lose and it all balances itself out again.

“You cannot control what is happening elsewhere, you can only focus on yourselves and what you can do directly. We have to focus on ourselves and what we need to do.

“What we can do is look at what Barnsley have achieved to climb the table. They have won 10 games out of their last 13 games and are three points adrift of the play-offs now.

“Now I am not saying we are going to go out and win 10 games of our remaining 13 games but no-one at Barnsley would have predicted that they would go on and build the type of confidence and momentum they have either.

He added: “They have proved what can be done if you can go on a run and that is what we need to try and emulate. We need to win some games and build some real momentum for the run-in.”
