Steve: "It Just Wasn't To Be"

Boss devastated after Tangerines defeat

Crewe Alexandra Manager Steve Davis bemoaned his side's fortunes after losing a proverbial six-pointer against Blackpool at Gresty Road.

Jack Redshaw and Tom Aldred goals downed Crewe despite Marcus Haber equalising with seven minutes left on the clock against the ten men.

The defeat leaves The Alex eight points from safety with nine games remaining, leaving Davis hugely frustrated with the afternoon's events.

He said: "I'm hugely disappointed, obviously. We knew the importance of the game, even with ten games to go we know beating Blackpool today would've taken us within a couple of points with a game in hand which would've been a huge boost.

"Going a goal behind was disappointing, we didn't defend it particularly well with tracking the midfielder into the box, but we had chances throughout.

"Brad had a great chance one-on-one, their keeper made a good save and we still thought that against ten men we had a great chance of turning it around after half time.

"We knew they'd have the odd chance on the break, which they did, because we took the gamble to push bodies on. We hit the woodwork three times, missed a penalty - it just wasn't to be."
