Crewe open the season with an away trip to Stevenage and have a number of long distance trips coming up in League Two.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “I was pleased to get the Lincoln fixture in. We needed a competitive game a week before the season starts.

“They are a league below us and it will be a tough game. We will travel on the day and it will be over two hours to get there, so it will be interesting to see how we perform when we have to travel some distance.

“It will prepare us for some of the away trips we will have to be making this season.

“We have got some competitive games this pre-season and that was important because I didn’t feel we had that with the work being done on the pitch. We didn’t get that last season because we had to play local non-league sides.”
