Saunders Doubtful After Ankle Knock

5 February 2016

Callum Saunders struggling to be fit after receiving knock on his ankle against Altrincham.

Young forward Callum Saunders is rated as doubtful for this weekend’s home game against Rochdale after picking up a knock on his ankle during our comfortable 6-0 win over Altrincham on Wednesday evening.

Wales Youth International Saunders scored twice, including a well struck free-kick, as Alex Morris’ side step up a second round clash with Stockport County for next week.

If Saunders does not make it then there will be a gap on the substitutes bench, with Charlie Kirk expected to be given his first inclusion in the senior squad after he travelled as the spare man for last weekend’s trip to Millwall.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “Callum got a knock on his ankle on Wednesday night and he has been in for treatment since, so he is doubtful for the weekend. It is an impact injury and he has suffered some bruising, so it is nothing too serious and he won’t be out for long.

“It is a bit sore but we expect him to be fine. It leaves a gap on the bench and we will bring another young player into it.”
