Boss: "We Need To Improve Our Start"

15 February 2016

Steve Davis says his players need to improve their openings to game after Walsall took the game to us.

Steve Davis was far than pleased with the start we made against Walsall on Saturday.

The Alex boss says we were fortunate not to be one or two goals behind after the visitors certainly started the game on the front foot.

Crewe survived an early onslaught in the opening 20 minutes but we fell behind after George Cooper handled inside the box to concede a penalty.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “We were disappointed with the start we made. We know we have to start better than that. It was a concern because we could have been two or three goals down.

“Ben (Garratt) made some great saves in the game to keep us in it. We grew into the game though and we competed against one of the best teams in the division. That has only breeds confidence.

“We have to be aware of the start we make and look to be better. We started the second half much better and got our goal and that was much more pleasing. I was pleased with the way the players reacted after the first 15/20 minutes. “
