Steve Pleased With Defensive Solidity

Boss Happy With Pompey Point

Crewe Alexandra Manager Steve Davis paid tribute to his defensive marshals after his side ground out a 0-0 draw with League Two promotion favourites Portsmouth at Gresty Road.

In an open game where both teams worked the ball well and threatened, neither goalkeeper was forced into too much action due to both defences being on top of their game to snuff out the danger.

Steve said: “I thought we did ok. It was a decent game considering there wasn’t any goals, it was a good 0-0.

“It was a very competitive game and both sides had a go and tried to win it. Considering it was a 0-0, both teams had a go to try and get the advantage.

“It just needed a bit of individual quality to win the game and neither team were able to do it. Fair play to both defences, they were very solid.

“Having the clean sheet is the biggest positive. The concentration as well was good, we don’t always get that right but I thought we were really good. Ben didn’t really have a save to make, so I thought it was a decent game especially from a defensive point of view.”
