Boss backs his players to turn results around following relegation last season.
Steve Davis believes his Crewe Alexandra squad have a burning desire to ‘perform better’ this season. The Alex boss feels that his players have responded well to the pre-season work and are ready to get back to winning ways following the disappointment of relegation last season.
The Railwaymen face a difficult opener on the opening day of the season at Stevenage, but Davis feels there is a real determination to start the season on the front foot.
Ahead of our trip to the Lamex Stadum, Steve said: “The players want the season to start. It is a long time from the end of the season, through the closed season and then into the six weeks of the pre-season. They are looking forward to the games now.
“They want to do better this season. There is a real determination from all of us to do better this season. They want to turn the results around and build confidence. We have enough in the squad to do that.
“The players want to get results for themselves, the fans and for the club. We have worked on systems, patterns of play and want we want to achieve with and without the ball. We can tinker with the systems here and there in the game if needs be.”
“As a manager you want the pre-season to go as quickly as possible and the games to start and there is always excitement on the opening game of the season. “
