Boss May Shuffle Pack For Cup-Tie

8 August 2016

Steve Davis could make changes for EFL Trophy tie at Bramall Lane.

Steve Davis has told the club’s official web-site that he may make some changes to his starting XI for tomorrow night’s EFL Trophy encounter at Sheffield United.

The Alex boss may look to freshen his team up with a busy first month of the season to get through. The Railwaymen face Sheffield United in the first round of the competitions and Davis has hinted that he may change one or two of his personnel for the trip to Bramall Lane.

Defenders George Ray and a fit again Ben Nugent could start and there could be changes in advanced positions.

Steve told crewealex.net: “The team came in on Sunday for a cool down and one or two were a bit sore. It was intense in the heat, so I may make one or two changes. We have a tough opening to the season with three games in a short space of time.

“I may utilise the squad and keep some players as fresh as we can. I will use the squad and it will give others a chance to make an impression.

He added: “I may choose to change the centre-halves. Ben (Nugent) have a little knee injury so we didn’t take him on Saturday. He could have travelled but we didn’t risk him. He stayed behind and did some work with Rob (Sharp) and he has benefitted from that. He will train today and he could start tomorrow alongside George (Ray).
