"Cannot Wait For The New Season To Start"

2 August 2016

Steve Davis says the waiting is nearly over.

Steve Davis says he cannot wait for the new season to start at Stevenage this weekend. Crewe kick off life in League Two with a tough clash at the Lamex Stadium this weekend but the Alex boss is pleased that the pre-season is over and he can concentrate on the competitive stuff.

Steve told crewealex.net: “I am looking forward to the season kicking off this weekend. The pre-season seems to take forever. I know it last six weeks but it seems to have gone slowly.

“That has been a positive really because we have been able to do plenty of work out on training ground and we have used the pre-season games to get the players three or four 90 minutes each. I have been pleased with it because we haven’t picked up any major injuries.

“As a manager you want the players to get through and you keep your fingers crossed hoping that no-one gets injured. We have lost Liam (Smith) but it is not too serious.

“One or two results have not gone according to plan but we have got a lot out of them and the players would have learned a lot. I think they have had some tough tests and they have had three or four really challenging games. That is what I wanted from the pre-season and I’m glad it is over and we can look forward to the new season.

He added: “League Two is tough. It is going to be hard and there are some big clubs in there. All we can hope for is that we start well, get back to winning games and please the fans by doing well.”
