Steve: "Proud Of The Players"

16 April 2016

Despite narrow defeat, Steve Davis was pleased with his side's performance

"We made some mistakes again for their goals and that is the most disappointing thing but if you take them out then it was a good performance overall and I was proud of them all today."

"The players worked hard and kept going and that is all you can ask of them as a manager. We played some really good football at times and I thought they handled the situation really well. We didn't know what the atmosphere would be like here today and it is difficult for young players to be involved in a team that has been relegated, but I thought they handled it superbly well. It will be a great education for them. I don't want to comment on what happened today, because it will take away from  the football.

"Zooms came on and was excellent for us. He put in five or six quality crosses and that is where we got back into the game through Marcus' close range finish. He gave us some quality from the left hand side and we were a bit unfortunate not to score another.

After the 3-2 defeat at Gresty Road, Steve told the club's official web-site: "I thought we played well today and the performance was good. If you take our mistakes out that resulted in them scoring then I didn't think there was a lot in the game at all. It was fairly even and we were the better side in the first half and created chances. We couldn't continue that tempo throughout the second half but we still created some good chances and if we had converted them then we would have got something. I thought we were unlucky to lose today.

Steve Davis says he was pleased the way his players performed against an in-form Scunthorpe side. Crewe were beaten 3-2 in the end but performed well in the first period and could well have collected something from the game with Marcus Haber missing two good chances in either half.
