Boss pleased with fightback after poor start
Steve Davis was pleased to build on the opening victory of the season at Shrewsbury last week with a hard-fought point at high-flying Walsall.Tom Bradshaw put The Saddlers ahead inside four minutes, but Ben Nugent’s superb first goal for The Railwaymen rescued a point midway through the first half.
Steve reserved special praise for his man mountain Nugent who was vital in successfully defending the point.
Steve told the post-match media: “Conceding the manner of the goal we did was disappointing but we battled back through a great strike from arguably our best player. He was terrific at the back, immense with clearance, blocks, headers and he’s be my man of the match today.
“I was disappointed with the way we started the game but we were much better second half when we started to play. We showed our intent too in the final minutes of the game taking a midfielder off and putting a forward on – we thought we could nick it.
“Walsall are flying and when a team is flying its very difficult to get anything and we went toe-to-toe with them, had a real go and we got our rewards.”
