Front Players Have To Combine Better

29 September 2015

Steve Davis aiming for more productivity from the front players.

Steve Davis says he may shake up his attacking options to improve the combination play in the final third of the pitch. The Crewe Alexandra boss says that his front players have to find the net on a more regular basis after struggling to score consistency at the start of the season.

The club’s leading scorer remains young midfield player Adam King on four goals and we had to rely on centre-half Ben Nugent scoring from the edge of the Walsall box on Saturday to secure a point at the Banks’s Stadium.

Steve told the club’s official web-site: “The front three have been dangerous on the counter attack and have worked hard but they are not combing as well as I would like. They sometimes look like three individuals up there and are not combing as well as they should be.

“They need to improve on that and they need to chip in with more goals. The two wide men have found it difficult at times when the opposition have doubled up on them. When that happens they have to find the players who are in space.

He added: “I could shake things up there and look for a different combination because I do have a few options with the likes of Marcus (Haber), George (Cooper) and Harry (Wilson) all waiting for their chance.”
